7 Great Workouts to Help You Lose Belly Fat

It’s great to want to lose belly fat and tone your core, but if you don’t have the right workout plan, you might end up setting yourself up for failure before you even get started.

There are so many different types of  workouts that it can be hard to choose the right one, but these great workouts will help you shape and tone your tummy in no time! Here are eight great workouts to help you lose belly fat.

1) Walking

The first thing on most people’s minds when it comes to losing belly fat is walking. It doesn’t matter if you do it for 30 minutes or 60 minutes, burning some calories is better than not burning any.

Walking can help you lose weight and get fit while also making you feel good by helping reduce stress and is a great way to let off steam if you have built up frustration or anger. So make sure you put walking at least in your weekly workout routine if not every day.

2) Running/Jogging

Running is a great way to lose fat fast, but it’s not for everyone. If you don’t enjoy running and get easily tired, then it may not be a great option for you. However, if you feel up to the challenge, try adding in some speed-walking intervals or jogging an extra mile in between walking sessions. Just make sure your knees are ready before getting started; visit your doctor if you have any concerns about your knee health.

Also remember that even though it’s a high-intensity workout, you shouldn’t push yourself too hard—it’s easy to burn out when trying something new.

Start off with two or three runs per week, gradually increasing over time as your body gets used to it. Remember that good form is key: keep your head up and look forward at all times so that you can see where you’re going (rather than down at your feet). Don't forget to stretch!

3) Running Stairs

Running up and down stairs is a great way to add some variety to your cardio routine. For example, try performing a staircase sprint workout by running up and down eight flights of stairs as fast as you can.

Sprinting on an incline burns approximately twice as many calories per mile as sprinting on flat ground. When you start feeling fatigued, make sure you slow your pace so that you don’t risk tripping or falling while running up and down stairs.

4) Sprinting

If you want to lose belly fat, you might want to start sprinting. This high-intensity workout can help you burn up to 10 calories per minute, even when done for short periods—and over time, those calories add up.

If you don’t have access to a track or football field, where do you run? Find an open stretch of road or sidewalk near your office and run as fast as you can for 30 seconds. Then walk slowly back to your desk, and repeat four times throughout your lunch hour.

Do it three days a week in place of your regular workouts and take note: you should feel lighter and more energetic after just one week! Sprinting will not only help you blast away belly fat but also improve your cardiovascular health. Check out these other amazing benefits of running too! Photo Credit: Alamy Photo Credits

5) Step Aerobics

It’s no secret that aerobic exercise is a crucial component of any weight-loss program. As long as you choose an activity that increases your heart rate, you can reap all of these benefits from step aerobics: increased energy, better mood and sleep, improved cardiovascular health, and weight loss.

They say it burns more than 500 calories per hour—that’s more than jogging! And if you want to build muscle in addition to burning fat, step aerobics can help with that too. All in all, one of our favorite ways to burn fat fast.

 6) Swimming

Swimming is one of those exercises that just about anyone can do, and it offers many health benefits (hello, all-over body workout!). It can also be your sole form of exercise, meaning you only need to pack your swimsuit and get yourself to a pool. Of course, if you are swimming in an open-water lake or in an area with waves or currents, you’ll need an additional partner or set of flotation devices.

If you’re looking for a way to burn calories while having fun, look no further than swimming. A 155-pound person will burn roughly 250 calories per hour while swimming laps at a moderate pace. To increase the intensity and burn more calories, try interval training or sprinting instead of laps.

 7) High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)/Cross fit

HIIT is a great fat-loss workout because it involves high-intensity exercise, which means you can get your heart rate up with minimal effort. The idea here is that you do quick and intense bursts of exercise followed by short periods of rest.

This type of workout burns tons of calories while also giving you lean muscle. If you’re looking for something a bit more challenging than walking or jogging, then HIIT/Crossfit might be a good option for you (and check out Crossfit if it's not).
