Two pilots killed as Russian fighter jet crashes into Siberian home

IRKUTSK, Russia 

 A Russian military jet crashed into an apartment in the Siberian city of Irkutsk on Sunday, killing two pilots, officials said.

In a Telegram post, Irkutsk Governor Igor Kobzev said...

' the plane hit his two-story house in the city. He released a video of firefighters scrambling over debris and spraying water onto the still-smoldering debris.'

There were no injuries on the ground, the governor said.

Officials said...

the plane was a Sukhoi Su-30 fighter undergoing test flights. Last Monday, a Sukhoi Su-34 crashed into an apartment complex in Yeysk, a southern city near Ukraine, killing at least 15 people.


Authorities said the initial investigation into the crash, in which the pilot ejected, indicated a technical malfunction with the plane.

A video of Sunday's incident shared on social media showed the plane plummeting almost vertically before plunging into a fireball, sending thick black smoke into the sky. said it was out of power and that work was underway to restore power.

Russia's State Commission of Inquiry said it had launched a criminal investigation into flight safety rule violations.
